Horror Film - Host

Host is a 2020 film directed by Rob Savage and is a Shudder exclusive. The film is about a group of friends who decide while under quarantine due to COVID-19 that they do a seance over Zoom. This would fall under the found footage style of horror film, which when done right, is one of my favorite subgenres. One thing that makes this film is cool is that it was actually filmed while under quarantine, the director had to direct remotely, which involved the actors having to set up their own cameras and lighting. While it is short, at just under an hour, I feel the length works perfect for this and makes sense.

I think all of the actors did an amazing job especially given the circumstances, the effects were really done well and the whole film just flowed well. While some of the scares were kind of predictable, I feel they did a great job with them, especially with the ending, even though I knew what was going to happen it still had an impact. I would give Host a 7.5.
